Senior living communities are the hardest kind of property to get Wi-Fi right in, and we have spent years getting good at it. A network here is not an amenity bolted onto a building. It carries nurse call traffic, medication records at the bedside, telehealth visits, staff phones, and the video call a resident has with their grandchildren on Sunday — often over the same access point, in a building made of concrete and steel.

Why These Buildings Are Hard

Most Wi-Fi problems in senior living are not bandwidth problems. They are design problems, and they show up in patterns we know well.

  • Construction fights you. Concrete floors, steel studs, fire-rated doors, and plaster with wire mesh absorb signal. Coverage has to be engineered room by room, not estimated from a floor plan.
  • Long corridors and dense wings. Memory care and assisted living layouts create dead zones and handoff failures exactly where staff move fastest.
  • Older devices, older standards. Residents bring equipment that is years behind current Wi-Fi standards, and it still has to work without dragging the network down.
